FAQ

  • How do I know that I am buying an authentic antique?

We guarantee that all antique items listed for sale are genuine authentic antiques. With over 20 years experience in the antiques business, researching and examining pieces within our specialist area, customers can be confident in purchasing from us. Where an item's exact date cannot be verified, we suggest a circa date using our best judgement.

  • Are all your antique boxes restored?

Where necessary we restore both the exterior and interior of our boxes, ensuring that they are presented in their best possible condition. All restoration work is carried out by Daniel himself, who uses authentic techniques and the finest quality materials.

  • Do your antique boxes come with working locks and keys?

All our antique boxes come with working locks and either original or replacement keys.

  • Can I see additional photographs of an item for sale?

Should you wish to see a specific angle or detail of an item, we are more than happy to take extra photographs especially for you. Please email us with your request and we will reply as soon as possible.

  • Which payment methods can I use?

We accept payment by most major credit or debit cards. Online payments are processed safely and securely via PayPal's encrypted server. We also accept payment by bank transfer.

  • Can I request a custom interior for a box?

All restoration work is done by Daniel himself; therefore, we can offer our customers a bespoke service. Please contact us if you are looking for a box with a particular colour of interior lining. Most popular colours are within the red, blue, green and purple spectrum, but we are able to provide other colours of velvet on request. We can source a suitable box to line especially for you, or we can re-line one of our current boxes from stock. In addition, we can customise the interior layout of boxes. Please note that there is an extra charge for our bespoke service.

  • Are orders made through your website secure?

We take our customer's online security very seriously. Therefore, we use one of the world's most secure, trusted and long established online payment processors, PayPal, which employs SSL protocol with an encryption key length of 168-bits.

  • Do you store my credit / debit card details?

No; we do not store any of your credit or debit card information, and we do not have access to your card information.

  • Will I receive a paper invoice with my transaction?

A sales invoice will be included in your package (unless you request otherwise). The invoice will include a full description of the item, and therefore you should keep it safe for insurance purposes.

  • How will my item be packaged?

All items are packed with extreme care. Items are wrapped in soft acid-free tissue paper to protect the polished finish, and then further wrapped in layers of bubble wrap. This tightly bound package is then placed into a strong cardboard box. We ensure that the package sits snugly inside the cardboard box, with no room for movement, by adding more padding such as bubble wrap, cardboard or polystyrene chips.

  • Can you ship to an address other than that linked to my credit / debit card?

Unfortunately, no. For security reasons we can only deliver to the address registered on your credit / debit card or PayPal account.

  • Do you ship worldwide?

Yes, we are happy to ship anywhere in the world.

  • Which shipping service do you use?

We use different shipping services depending on the delivery destination. Within the UK, we use Royal Mail Special Next Day delivery or ParcelForce 24-Hour delivery. For international orders, we use FedEx, unless otherwise stated.

  • Can I request my item to be insured during transit?

If you would like to have your item fully insured during transit, please let us know and we can get an immediate quote for you.

  • How long will my order take to arrive?

For deliveries within the UK, allow 1-2 working days. For Europe, allow 1-2 working days. For USA & Canada, allow 1-2 working days (subject to customs inspections). For the rest of the world, allow 5-7 working days (subject to customs inspections).

  • Can I track my order online?

You will receive an email containing a tracking number once your order has been dispatched. Enter your tracking number into the courier's website for up-to-date delivery progress of your package.

  • Can I collect my item in person?

We are more than happy for you to collect your item/s from us in person. (Bear in mind that we are based in London, UK.) Collection is by appointment only. Please telephone or email to arrange a convenient time, and we will have your item/s ready for you to collect.

  • Will I have to pay Customs Duty on antique purchased from you?

Antique items over 100 years old are not usually subject to Customs Duty. We include customs declarations within all packages, declaring the date and antique status of the items inside. However, Daniel Lucian cannot be held responsible for any costs whatsoever incurred by Customs Duty or similar. Any such costs must be paid by the customer.

  • Can I return my purchase?

Items may be returned for good reason provided they are in the same condition as when they were dispatched. If you wish to return an item you must inform us in writing by email within 7-days of receiving the item. Upon confirmation that we have received your returns request, you must then return the item to us within 7-days. You will be held responsible for the safe arrival of the item and must therefore use an insured / trackable shipping service. Please read our Terms and Conditions for full details of our returns policy.

  • Can I exchange my item for something else?

Under certain circumstances, you may exchange your purchase for a different item from our collection at its full retail price. Please read our Terms and Conditions for full details of our exchange policy.

  • How do I care for my antique item?

Wood is a strong and resilient material but it should be treated with care nonetheless.

    Please follow these care guidelines:

    1. Do not leave your antique in direct sunlight.

    2. Do not leave your antique too close to sources of heat (such as radiators, fan heaters and open fires).

    3. Do not leave your antique in environments that are prone to humidity (such as bathrooms and small kitchens).

    4. Do not spill any liquids onto the polished surface of your antique. Immediately wipe away accidental spillages with a clean dry cloth.

    5. Consider waxing your antique every few months or so. This provides extra protection to the polished surface and keeps its appearance as immaculate as possible.

    6. Love and cherish your antique, but don't be afraid to use it. It has survived for over a century already, and, with good care, will provide you with life-long pleasure.

If you have a specific question about caring for antiques, or would like a product recommendation, we are always happy to help by telephone or email.

  • What will I receive if I sign up for Email Updates?

You will receive occasional emails about new items for sale, promotions and discounts, as well as relevant news and events updates. We do not send spam about unrelated products, and we do not share your contact details with third parties.
