Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel by Jenner & Knewstub

Ref DL001
SOLD
This impressive antique jewellery box, veneered in Coromandel, was manufactured and retailed by Jenner & Knewstub during the early 1880s. An engraved brass coronet and monogram belonging to Baroness Rothschild are inlaid into the top of the lid.

The interior is lined and ruched with deep red velvet, contrasting with the vibrant gilding of the brass work. The front flap of the box, with inset Bramah lock, drops forward; an engraved maker's plate on the back of the lock reads, 'Jenner & Knewstub - To The Queen - 33 St James's Street and 66 Jermyn Street'.

The main section of the box, comprising eight compartments and two ring/ cufflink channels, separates and swings outwards by 90-degrees to reveal six further compartments underneath. There are two deep sections at the rear of the box fitted with secret pull-up floors, concealing hidden jewellery compartments underneath.

There is a lower Coromandel-fronted drawer with a dovetailed solid Satinwood framework. Divided into three small front compartments and one full-width rear compartment, this drawer has its own independently locking Bramah lock.

Both Bramah locks are fully working and come with Bramah keys.
